All too often things are sugar-coated, packaged for the masses and sent out into the world. All without a true representation of what things really look like. I don't want to waste your time or mine so please read through this section and feel free to ask questions should you have any.
Due to a number of factors, there is a 95% failure rate with new part time agents. Your ability to stay busy and stick to a schedule greatly improves your odds though.
If you have spent any amount of time online reading articles, watching videos or listening to podcasts you have caught a slight undertone of negativity when it comes to part time agents. It isn't without merit though. To be a part time agent and be successful will require a serious commitment from you, and quite simply most aren't willing to do it.
I won't go into great detail here. But chargebacks are real and they happen to the best. If you are paid an "advance" from a carrier, and your new client lets their policy lapse you will owe back the difference to the carrier of premium that they had not received on that advanced amount.
You will need to make a commitment that your "free time" will be spent on your new business. You will have to work longer, and harder to see the results that others who are working this full time see. With a full time job, family, and other activities it can become a real juggling act.
Talking to people is the life blood of this business. While I have no requirement on any sort of weekly "lead spend", if you aren't talking to people you aren't working. I use a few sources, but leads from our CRM (Integrity) is my go to. Leads, if purchased can cost anywhere from $0.50/each to over $60/each. Determining a plan and budget to build your business is vital to its success.
The only real financial requirement is the cost of obtaining your license and an E&O (errors & omissions) liability policy required by the carriers that you will potentially contract with. A computer and cellphone, which most of us have would also be a necessity.
As an Independent agent, you are in control of your schedule and your business.
While we are not permitted to make income claims. I can say that the compensation we offer is one of the best in the industry.

I felt there were other people in this world like me. Someone who has a job that they can't just walk away from, a family to support, and sometimes a few too many irons in the fire. Those things however didn't mean that I wasn't committed, or that I wasn't serious but early in my career that was the sentiment. I was fortunate enough to find a team that believed in my ability to manage my time and my business. They allowed me to work the business as I saw fit or at least as my time allowed. Now, this didn't mean I could work it a few hours a week and call it good, it meant I had to grind. And in that grind I have found success, still a work in progress but I have found a way to work my full time job, keep the bills paid and then also work my insurance business creating a path for me to leave the construction field at some point.
Whether you are full time, or like me you are looking to work part time in the insurance world I am building a team of agents who are willing to do what it takes to be successful. This may turn some away, but if you are unable to give a minimum of 15hrs a week of solid work please do not apply. Additionally, you will either need to purchase leads or work your warm market, waiting on your phone to ring or people to walk through your door will not cut it. You will need to be coachable, and accountable for your time. I am willing to match the commitment you demonstrate equally with time I will commit to you.
